A Note on Legal Marriage (UK)
In England and Wales, celebrants cannot currently conduct legally binding wedding ceremonies.
Many couples choose to complete the legal registration separately — often in a simple private setting — and then have a celebrant-led ceremony that reflects who they are and what they want to express.
There are ongoing discussions about reforming wedding law, but at present this is the position.
